 For Sale! 2012 Sportster Forty Eight 1200. This has been my ol’ reliable bike for years and I wouldn’t hesitate to ride this anywhere… Only selling to fund the Datsun build! I have owned this since new and have slowly customized a few things over the years. Most recently I just welded up a stainless exhaust system and made a brand new leather seat with ZERO farts on it! Has an Altman Electronics ignition system and a Mikuni vm38 carb (no fuel injection). Has an aftermarket spun aluminum oil tank. Has a set of stainless apes with some aftermarket tins in gloss black. Road Trip!

My girlfriends cousin is getting married in Little Rock, Arkansas today.  We drove the rape van out with a couple of bikes in the back, to go to the wedding and then try and do some riding in tennessee on the way back.  Thinking of stopping in Johnson City to try and check it out.  Now that we are out here it looks like rain all week..

Last week or so I got the sporty running with the new ignition and carb.  Got a seat and a passenger seat made and its ready to ride!  Few more things on the list are sissy bar, tail light, oil tank, and finally paint!

Sportster Forty Eight EFI to Carb Conversion

I had some trouble with the forty eight a year and a half ago, ended up having to rewire the bike to stock on the side of the road after my fuel computer failed.  I decided to swap to a carb.  I got an s&s intake manifold and mounted a Mikuni VM38 carb.  I had a throttle cable and throttle grip in the garage already and used those.  

For the Ignition I reached out to Altman Micro Machines in Germany.  They make an electronic ignition module that uses your crank angle sensor and the wires from the coil to run the ignition.  There are settings for advance base setting, advance rise curve, and rev limit.  There are literally 6 wires that you need to keep from the main harness.  Then there are a ground and ignition + and you are ready to start the bike.  I ended up just gutting the harness and starting from scratch.  But the amount of wires removed was awesome.  

I had a tank with a ridge in the center that was being swapped onto various bikes.  I welded on some bungs to mount the tank, now i just need to lower the rear mount a bit so that it flows a little better... 

I still need to make an ignition coil mount, and make a battery tray, but other than those two it should be ready to ride.... I will be swapping out the stock oil tank for something else soon, and there is a seat in mind..... Still have to figure that out... 

Paints

Ive been trying to catch up on all the projects I started in the fall now that it is the dead of winter... Got the harley back together and all i have to do is paint the tins and it should be ready to go...

Started simplifying the wiring on the Kawasaki.  Just need to make some mounts on the battery box to hold all of the electronicals.

Also got the main frame parts of the brat style bike primed/painted/and cleared this weekend.  One more batch of stuff to paint and it should be ready to put back together.  Also was going to make this bike on the cheap, but decided to at least replace some parts that are necessary so I ordered some new needle head bearings, and some new bronze swingarm bushings... By next week I should be able to put everything back together and figure out what paint scheme im going to use on the tins...

Harley Bars

Got sick of running my low tracker style bars on my harley 48, so i decided to make a set of bars out of some 1" tube i had laying around... Nothing fancy...

Pretty happy with how they came out... but if i was going to do it again i think i would have only gave them a 5" rise and a little more degree of sweep... practice makes perfect...
